Over the last 5 years I have learned how many of the medications and foods I ingested growing up have affected my gut health, killed good bacteria, affected my adrenal glands and impacted my anxiety and stress levels. Eating all the processed foods with fillers and chemicals did a lot of damage to my gut. While medications and other prescriptions like birth control have killed a lot of my good bacteria and created an imbalance in my hormones. Over the last few years I have focused on natural solutions to build my body back up to the strong powerhouse it was intended to be.

Having my daughter over a year ago I am very passionate about not making those same mistakes with her. When I was growing up my parents did not know any better. There weren’t the resources or the internet where information was at your fingertips. Today I am very conscious what medications I give my daughter, what is applied topically and chemicals/toxins that are around us (especially in our home). I want to save her from all the issues I faced daily. This is one of the main reasons I started using essential oils.

I did a lot of research on essential oils and essential oil companies. I have been using doTERRA essential oils for almost two years now. I started while I was pregnant to help soothe some of my discomforts. I will say in the beginning I was extremely skeptical. I didn’t believe oils could really affect my mood, how I was feeling or could ease my discomforts. But after educating myself on how the oils are harvested and produced, how the oils work with our body systems and learning the different methods of using them, I was shocked at the results. These oils really did help me feel better and keep my family healthier.

I wanted to better understand how these oils were affecting me both physically and emotionally. I had an easier time understanding the physical changes. Essential oils can enter the bloodstream therefore circulating our organs and interacting with tissues and cells throughout our body. The more I learned how the body metabolized essential oils, the more it helped me to better appreciate each oils wellness-promoting power!

What I struggled to believe was how inhaling or smelling an oil could really change my mood. So I dug into the research and discovered why Balance and Serenity really do help lessen my anxiety. Essential oils are simply a mixture of volatile aromatic compounds. These compounds are able to interact with the olfactory (smell) receptors in the nose. Our sense of smell can have a profound effect on our emotions, and simply inhaling the aroma can elicit an emotional response. The smell receptors, located on the upper surface of the nasal cavity, make direct links with the limbic system of the brain, where the scent is perceived and processed. Therefore affecting your emotions.

Today I make sure to take all my vitamins (Omega3, multi-vitamin, etc) and probiotics daily. I also take essential oils on a regular basis. I find that I feel so much better, I have more energy, my stress level is down and my immune system stays stronger. I am excited that my daughter can grow up with an alternative to modern medicine and hopefully not have to experience the gut and hormone struggles I went through.
