When you are first starting with essential oils it can be challenging to figure out where to start. Here are the oils I use most in my family on a daily basis. I’ll use these oils individually or blend them with other oils. I apply them directly, take them internally or diffuse them. Here are my go-to oils:

  1. Lavender Essential Oil – All Things Calming
Lavender can be used for almost anything. It has great calming properties. Many massage therapists use this oil to help relax and calm their clients. It is also great for soothing skin irritations. I have this oil in a roller-bottle diluted with fractionated coconut oil for easy and quick application on my daughter with her constant tumbles and trips. Try adding lavender and water to a spray bottle and freshen your sheets with it. You’ll sleep better too!
  1. Melaleuca Essential Oil – First Aid for the Skin
Melaleuca, also known as “Tea Tree” oil, is renowned for it’s cleansing and rejuvenating effects on the skin. Anytime I’m starting to get a blemish I apply it directly and within a day it’s already going away. Melaleuca also protects against environmental and seasonal threats. I have a roller-bottle with a wellness blend that includes this oil to help keep my family’s immune system strong. It’s also one of the oils I add to my DIY chapstick I make!
  1. Lemon Essential Oil – Clean & Fresh
Lemon naturally cleanses the body and aids in digestion. I add this daily to my water, which helps me drink more, keeps me hydrated and my skin looks better than ever. Lemon also has amazing cleansing properties. Use Lemon (or other citrus essential oils) to make your own homemade household cleaning products. It’s safe, smells fresh and keeps your home germ free!
  1. Oregano Essential Oil – Natural Immune Support
Oregano is a hot oil and must be diluted if applied topically. It’s great for cooking, but beyond that it has natural antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal and anti-parasitic properties. Oregano is another oil I use in my wellness blend. I will also add 1–2 drops in an empty vegetable capsule to maintain a healthy immune system.
  1. Frankincense Essential Oil – Liquid Gold
Frankincense helps build and maintain healthy immune system. This oil is key to my wellness blend. It promotes cellular health and one of the best things… it reduces the appearance of scars and stretch marks!! If you are feeling any temporary head tension put a drop of Frankincense on your thumb and rub it on the roof of your mouth.
  1. Peppermint Essential Oil – Cool & Invigorating
Peppermint is great for making your own chapstick, toothpaste and body scrubs. It promotes healthy respiratory function and clear breathing. We diffuse it often especially during seasonal changes when threats are higher. It also helps if you have an upset stomach to rub directly to your tummy or to your head if you have temporary head tension. NOTE: some people are more sensitive to peppermint so make sure to test on a patch of skin and dilute if necessary.
